    [[[That sculpture is the object

    And all objects are things.

Sculpture is really about the conversation it generates, because its reciprocal relation is derived from the idea of the object.

The thing and the idea happen at the same time by ‘the definition of Identity’.

And this even as ‘the same time’ can be long or short.]]]

    REAL POLITIC . forged iron . _ lbs . 11″ . 1992 – 2024.

‘The SYLLOGISM is transitive’, as demonstrated by Wilfrid von Leibniz (1676).

“A thing is the meaning of an idea.” George Boole (1815-1864).

“Mass cannot exist without space,” Albert Einstein.

“The Medium is the Message,” Marshal McLuan.

    “A thing is itself,” Euclid.

Sculpture is the Art of the Thing as Idea…the object is subject.

In the near, beside the ferocious forge, an object is worked towards some idea that could make it a thing. Perhaps it is squaring-the-round that Jacob Lischer has tasked you to the length of a bar. Then POINT(s) : he has instructed you how to ‘draw’ the thickness down over the edge of the anvil … then snipping your attempt between hammer and hardy. And another and another. Matter and space are the limits. And you try to perfect the ‘point’. People are watching. You are the ‘apprentist in exhibit’ at expo 67.

And then you read some Euclid. “A POINT is that which hath no parts.”

Which is clearly demonstrated here as the place where the mass drops to zero .

And then,”A LINE is the distance between two points.” But what is the question?

    21 Dec 1:00am

One can locate three-dimensional space in a POINT where three LINES meet.

Two-dimensional space, is a POINT is where two LINES meet, that is, intersect.

    L

One-dimensional space, is where:”A LINE is the distance between two POINTS”.

EUCLIDEAN space says “A POINT is that which hath no PARTS.”

LET Euclid’s point be ZERO (O).

    Lets go with the PARTS

Let a line be ONE distance between TWO ends. Also known as the REFLECTIVE : A is A . Or Boole’s IDENTITY  or(0=0)

AND, a POINT somewhere “contained” in the Transitive is at the vertex of a three-dimensional logical configuration or where A = B = C ,

BUT, the ends beg identity , they ask questions . If cause and effect are played out , a thing of “TWO” ends answers itself in the meta-CUBE.

THE SYLLOGISM is what Leibniz demonstrates to be transitive. Trusting our intuition, we think we understand but (error has it as a “chain”). Sculpture demonstrates TRANSITIVITY and completes the question.   SO, the SYLLOGISM is meta-CUBIC .

    2:00am …thinking takes time

Therefore TERMs (A is A or B is B or C is C) are three identities which can be realized as three distinct LINES in themselves. Each line is considered one-dimension , right? Separately we have three dimensions .

Carefully, the PROPOSITION equates identities [(A=A)= (B=B)] or (A is B) and (B is A). That is AB = BA . This is known as “commutation”. Here the Identities are in a synthetic relation : :contained , equal , identified . This is interesting as it is definitive . We now have two-dimensions : equal as they are co-ordinated . But 2 times 2 = four .

    AB = BA . steel . 1975 .

The meaning of TWO Squared is “flat” even as the articulated is identified by overlap , entering , containing. Does not the moment say 0 = 1 ? Even as both are true in the flat representation, the consistent approach to identity – rounds the conversation to equated dimension and that to “the thing is the meaning of the idea” or “the medium is the message”.

But in that conversation ,one has to ask: why is the ‘flat’ , undifferentiated symbol a problem ? Or “we really only need to to talking about one end”?

“MASS and SPACE” are the presence here. One cannot exist without the other. Both ‘speak’ to the other as figure is to ground. The relation is a simple binary .

Even as “a thing is itself”, the lesson ‘the thing’ propels : proximity of identity is differentiation at superficies : that is the ‘within’ limit of boundary.

If this is the occasion of conversation, the relations of “term” , “proposition” , and “syllogism” : ought to suggest a case of transference that cannot leap boundaries even as “equality” leaps to an equality of equals: the other .

Do we counter-intuit the philosophical appropriation which Plato’s dialogues might highlight : “…those elements of perception which are encountered without material or objective reference available to the eyes” (dictionary)?

Question: Does the physical representation of the axiom of transitivity realize the idea ?

Just as this argument dominates with form , its intention in Leibniz is a clue. “Why is there not nothing?” Then we are affirming the structural duality: ‘something equals nothing’.

“A thing is the meaning of an idea.” is symbolized by Boole and the symbol is 0=0 ; which is tautologic as is A is A. Boole in algebra says we only need use one side of this.

BUT: Sculpture is the “thing” with structure that exemplifies as medium what is the structure of duality as is the “idea” to the message .

Here A is A or 0=0 is logically a “term” , philosophic – an Identity , geometric – a LINE , dimensionally – “One:” aka, the distance between two points without which, there is the POINT: “that which hath no parts,” Euclid.

There are two ways to look at Identity .

    Let us assign the tautologies….A is A , or B is B or C is C etc.

    “A LINE has two ends.”

The DIJECT is how we get the computer program to morph from cube to two.
Euler’s Formula’ : 8 vertices + 6 sides – 12 lines = 2. SO, what is meant here is a definition of a CUBE : can be a function of TWO . This makes the dimensional artifact one-dimensional and the beginning of time “two ends”.

AND as ancient as time, the PALEOLITHIC NUT CRACKER begins its journey between the thumb and the middle finger – which accounts for the TWO dimples on top and bottom of each stone – the other stone being the anvil .

Completing the action, a geometric CUBIT – we have eight ends in communion.

And this much as the ‘key-hole’ is demonstrated in this flipped gestalt .The flipping occurs where 0=1 . If it is something it is mass. If it is nothing, space.

Where REAL POLITIC is a reflection of the small mind and the big thing, esthetics as it equals ethics, gets understood.

Then the truism which says A is A .

That we are calling a thing an idea: its presence real and its idea imaginary is proof that ideas are things.

But this ‘thing’ has two ends, just as space is not mass.

And compounds that revelation with possibilities, permutations and combinations . But art brings the domains of figure, ground…space/self and mass/self.

The result asks questions to the extent that the causes have been raised.

At a minimum one must approach sculpture – that is ‘the thing proper’ from three directions and that corresponds to opposite directions : as what is between , is the result. A sculpture had six faces – each of which correspond to the critique.

The formal development of space and mass is sourced in the superficies of a thing at the same time as the surface is touched by identical – meaning mirrored – space.

What is the meaning of this: (“the thing is the meaning of an idea”?)

Meta-transitivity is “about” transitivity . The parts maintain identity . So mass is not space. And yet mass is identifiable within a boundary and space is identifiable as it is bounded by mass.

If mass and space are binary . And the mass is identified as a boundary ; just as a space is a thing bounded up to the mass ; each is identified as not the other. And yet the complexities of integration are such that they are juxtaposed.

The topology of a thing is only known by its parameter. And as a piece, it is an identity . An idea would bound itself to a thing as identified. The thing, be it space or mass, begins and ends with the other.

Dimension is a stand alone beginning and end.

    23 Jan

1:45pm (waiting at Gear Jammers for “smoke test)

Our reciprocal “thing” and “idea” , let’s list the domains .

Let “sculpture” be the thing and “logic” be the idea.

But Boole’s symbol 0=0 has them equal and yet he says you only need one side of this (0) ! Let the esthetic/moral reign ! There is no existent without both. For does the tree fall if you don’t observe it ?

The symbol shapes the meaning of logic’s term. A is A is a self reflexive structure or known as a tautology or an identity. But sculpture makes a topological coherent piece if this . O-O . The topology of continuity is here shown to represent one-dimension . Coherence and continuity refer to the integrity of both an idea and a thing . Our fundamental structure has two ends.

Distance is the shape of getting there.

Two-dimensions can be seen as ‘matchsticks’ or commuted. Commuted makes them “equal” in both a moral and an esthetic sense. Equality in meta-sculpture looks like 0=0x0=0

    ___ . Surely this reflects back on the proposition: AB = BA or thoroughly ;

    (A=A)(B=B) = (B=B)(A=A) .

       Enough for now !

When is this structure (of the proposition Itself) a commutation? “Commutation” is a synthesis, where the “term” is analysis.

The syllogism is the equating of three dimensions . And it looks like this ____. *

*A typical look at the syllogism says: first the general, then the specific etc ; but Leibniz demonstration does not interest us in this. Just equality is a “containing” (of ends) !

Our sculpture ‘wants’ three faces and its opposites which give us six . Space approaching mass runs into a wall; so let the sculpture ‘say’ this. Not only is the mass a statement ; but an opening in the face falls against an interior ‘wall’. Are we in the “cave” or wat? The ‘arresting’ of space inside is the arresting on the outside. This is the meaning of “saying”.

So, a sculpture that says something about itself is our goal. And if this occurs three times, we are three-d. Topology, as vision is “flat”, unifies. ___ .

In a critique, we ask, where does a sculpture comment on itself?
